First International Transdisciplinary Conference on SARS-Cov-2:

Global Health Approaches to the Outbreak

SARS-CoV-2 has grown to be a global public health emergency since cases were first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

The World Health Organization has declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern and this outbreak is an unprecedented event in the recent history of emerging infectious diseases.

The gap in knowledge due to the fact that this new agent had never been identified in human beings before and its rapid spread represents a global threat for the world.  Specifically the absence of vaccines and treatments means that urgent action is needed to develop and to adopt coping strategies and tactics while working to close the knowledge gap.

Given the spread of the virus in different countries, there is an urgent need for key actors  on the global health scene to participate in the international understanding and management of this outbreak. A global response to control this outbreak and its impact on population is needed. Furthermore, any weak or uninformed links in the global network will only undermine the effectiveness of the global response.

This First International Transdisciplinary GHF conference on SARS-Cov-2, jointly organized by UNIGE-HUG will convene, both onsite and remotely, main experts in the field, in different domains of science to share their observationgs, findings and concerns: clinicians, virologists, immunologists, ethicians, epidemiologists, mathematical modelers, policy scientists, economists, logisticians, sociologists and anthropologists, health experts and more.

‘’Public and private sectors have the responsability to share as early as possible their proposed  agendas for helping decision makers to bring solutions to better control this outbreak,’’ said Professor Flahault, Director of the Institute of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva and who is the initiator of this conference.
